Steamboat Flyfisher by the Lake

Steamboat Flyfisher by the Steamboat Lake

Steamboat Flyfisher is very pleased to have teamed up with Steamboat Lake Outfitters and opened up a second location at Steamboat Lake.  This satellite store will be open seasonally from Memorial Day through September.  We have stocked the new location with fly fishing and conventional fishing equipment specific to the North Routt lakes and high mountain creeks.  In addition to fishing specific equipment, we also have a great selection of clothing, packs and raingear suitable for the ever changing weather Steamboat Lake experiences!

The opening of the second location brings Steamboat Flyfisher back to its roots; the company started as the Steamboat Lake Fishing Company in 1992, originally owned by Carroll White.   Opened in Hahn’s Peak Village, Steamboat Lake Fishing Company provided customers with fishing equipment and supplies suitable for fishing the lakes and creeks in the North Routt area.  The company moved to downtown Steamboat Springs in 1995 and continued to grow and offer a wider selection of brands and gear.  Over the next decade, several more changes in ownership occurred, but the core group of guides remained the same.  The company changed its name to Steamboat Flyfisher in 2005, and moved to its current location on 5th and Yampa in 2009.

I was called by Russ Lambert, general manager of Steamboat Lake Outfitters, in early June of 2010.  He let me know that they were looking for a fishing company to move into the Hahn’s Peak Room in order to offer customers a truly full service outfitter.  Now, in addition to horseback rides, ATV tours and cabin rentals, customers will have an outlet to ask about local fishing conditions and stock up on critical gear.

This partnership between Steamboat Lake Outfitters and Steamboat Flyfisher has been designed as a long term arrangement.  When the Yampa River and Elk Rivers are unfishable in the springtime due to the run-off, Steamboat Lake and Pearl Lake are at their best; ice-off on these lakes generally occurs around Memorial Day, so you can count on Steamboat Flyfisher to be stocked and ready for antsy anglers after the long Routt County winters

I encourage you to swing by Steamboat Flyfisher by the Lake when your camping and fishing travels bring you North.  And make sure to save time for a delicious meal at the restaurant at Steamboat Lake Outfitters.  Looking forward to seeing you soon!
