PRIVATE CLINICS:

Private clinics can be arranged at any time of the year and are a great opportunity for families, special events or corporate gatherings. We work with several private ranches in the area that have ponds ideal for private clinics. All equipment is provided with the clinics. For bigger groups, additional guides are required.

FREE CLINICS:

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Steamboat Flyfisher offers free casting clinics on Wednesday afternoons at 5:30 and Saturday mornings at 10:30 at the West Lincoln Park on 13th Street. During the clinics, guests should expect to learn the fundamentals of casting a fly rod and the basics of "reading water" - meaning, how to choose where to fish. Anglers of all experience level are invited, including kids, and all equipment is provided. Let one of our guides teach you how to cast!

FLY TYING CLINICS:

All of our guides are avid fly-tiers and instruct clinics throughout the year. Our clinics consist of 8 hours of instruction spread out over four two hour sessions. In addition to learning specific patterns, customers should expect to learn specific techniques that are used in many different flies: fly proportions, dubbing loops, tying parachutes and split wings, stacking hair, palmering hackle, etc. The cost of the clinic is USD 85.00 per customer, which includes all equipment. The classes are limited to 6 people each.

FLY FISHING SCHOOL:

In addition to casting clinics and guided trips, we also offer a one day fly fishing school. This course takes beginners to the sport and introduces them to the fundamentals and intricacies of fly fishing. Class meets at 9am at Steamboat Flyfisher and the morning session covers equipment, fly selection, knots and basic entomology. Lunch is provided by Backcountry Provisions. The afternoon session begins at the 13th Street par, where the students learn that necessary techniques to properly cast a fly rod. Students then head to the river to learn how to use dry flies, nymphs and streamers. The course is designed to help students become entirely self-sufficient fly fishermen.
